NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC) requirements,
stipulated by 10CFR 35.290 and the new 10CFR 35.920 apply to
states with NRC jurisdiction. The dual requirements are in effect
until October 2004. The 35.920 requirements may be summarized
as:
700 hours of training and work experience
that includes classroom and laboratory training in RADIOISOTOPE
HANDLING. Thus, the 100 hours of the INME MEDICAL RADIOISOTOPE
HANDLING Program plus 500 hours of experience
meet the existing and future requirements.
AGREEMENT STATES may adopt the NRC criteria
prior to October of 2004, or some may retain their current
regulations until or after that date. In general, the Agreement
States requirements are (from 10CFR 35.290):
200 hours of RADIOISOTOPE HANDLING classroom
and laboratory training. Experience, both technical and
clinical, in the types of procedures desired, that documents
500-1000 hours of additional training in these areas. Thus,
the total hours, to be documented by a PRECEPTOR are 700-1200.
BOARDS. Boards, i.e., CBNC, ABR, and ABNM
are neither a requirement or prerequisite for obtaining licensure,
however, the INME Programs may be used to address their eligibility
requirements.

The Institute for Nuclear Medical Education (INME) is pleased to announce that
effective with annual expiration of its approval by the State of Colorado, it will not
be required to submit renewal of its program. The State of Colorado has granted an exception to
INME, upon request by INME.
Thus, with the expiration of its current approval, INME will not be required to renew its
approval by the State of Colorado. INME's request tht resulted in this action was based on
INME's academic approval by the American Council on Education (ACE) which is recognized by
the American Association for College Registration, Council on Post-Secondary Education,
with college/university, undergraduate/graduate credit approvals for the INME Program. The
Colorado approval was deemed, by INME, as being unnecessary. The programs have been physically
inspected and approved for their academic standing, and will continue to uphold those high academic
standards required b all credit-eligible academic institutions.
In addition to INME academic experience, INME provides, at no charge to its participants,
full CME, Category 1, for the entire program. CME, of course, does not represent any
academic standards; however, INME provids the only program with both academic and equal CME
standards of excellence.
